Singularity Salon: Future of Science and Innovation

Speakers
Dr Martina Banyay
Event place
Technium

The basis for all innovation is science. In modern times, scientific research has been harbored in universities and big corporations. With the digital revolution, everything has changed.

Today more than half the world’s population is online, and the other half is in the process of connecting. Innovation comes from everywhere, and it’s no longer enough to look for new ideas and collaborations among your industry peers and in your usual network. When new discoveries are being made by sixteen-year olds who have gained all their knowledge by watching YouTube and discussing in online forums, it’s time to rethink whom you collaborate with and how.

This session addresses the following questions:

  • What are the different forces that are disrupting and shaping the future of science?
  • How will science be affected by the open science movement, the sharing and circular economies, the rise of citizen science, the disruptive forces of emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, and IoT, new ways of communicating, and new ways of collaborating?
  • Will the increased complexity of the questions at stake challenging humanity result in the disassembly of institutions and the rise of truly interdisciplinary teams?

Science is at the heart of progress. And it’s about to be transformed.
